MUSIC PRODUCTION SERVICES
Though the terms may seem interchangeable, there is a difference between a Recording Engineer and a Producer.A recording engineer is a technician who operates the soundboard and other equipment during a recording session, and a Producer takes more of a creative role in the recording process. Defining the role which I as a freelance Engineer/Producer take when working on a project is an important distinction. While it isn't uncommon for a Producer and Engineer to be the same person, there are some scenarios where the role of Producer might be filled by the client, or might not be necessary at all.
College/High School Solo Recordings: One of the most common services I provide is to young adults and teenagers who are looking to get high quality recording of solo repertoire. For this project I take on the role of an Engineer, as the creative direction is often set by the original composer, and the performer or their private instructor would be in charge of any creative changes. Set up for these projects are typically a one microphone setup with very light mixing to remove room noise and improve sound quality.
Mixing and Mastering: With the advances in technology it has become much easier to record at home, but just because the technology exists, doesn't mean that everyone has the knowledge or experience required to give home recordings the polish that makes them sound professional. If you have stem tracks that you'd like to have mixed and mastered I can be hired as a mix engineer, and working closely with a client can provide the right mix to make the track stand out
Production & Engineering: Without access to multi-million-dollar studios producing a high quality album and EP from home becomes more difficult. I am willing to work with artists in different contexts acting as a recording and mix engineer to capture the best sound out of my clients, and as a producer offering advice as a composer with a music theory background to help improve on the composition of a client's song. The more creatively involved I am with the project the more closely I'll want to work with clients because it is important to me as a producer to respect the creative vision of an artist more than anything else. It's your name on the front of the CD, not mine.
Spoken Word Mixing: I am also available for editing spoken word audio for voice-overs, podcasts, and other projects in a similar vein. I have experience working on the Mustard Pants Podcast and can work to remove room noises (background noise, sound of the AC unit, etc.) or add in additional foley sounds, for comedic affect.
For audition tapes visit the Videography list of services. All audio in these audition tapes are edited to remove unwanted sounds and improve overall quality, but are included in the video service.
